\n\n<\/a>\nSierra Club, one of the oldest, largest, and most influential\ngrassroots environmental activist groups in the U.S.,\nhas been\n\ntentatively anti-nuke since 1974<\/a>,\nobserving now that none of its conditions of\nenergy conservation, reactor safety, nuclear fuel disposal,\nweapons proliferation,\nor adequate regulation have ever been met,\nhas come out unequivocably against nuclear power.\n<\/p>\n

\nNuclear Power Is Not the Answer<\/a><\/h2>\n

\nThe Sierra Club remains unequivocally opposed to nuclear energy.\nAlthough nuclear plants have been in operation for less than 60\nyears, we now have seen three serious disasters.\n<\/p>\n\n<\/a>\n

\nTragically, it took a horrific disaster in Japan to remind the world\nthat none of the fundamental problems with nuclear power have ever\nbeen addressed.\n<\/p>\n

\nBesides reactor safety, both nuclear proliferation and the required\nlong-term storage of nuclear waste (which remains lethal for more\nthan 100,000 years) make nuclear power a uniquely dangerous energy\ntechnology for humanity.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
