\nThe Occupy Wall Street movement may have started far away in New York,\nbut Valdosta\u2019s citizens are rallying to join the growing movement,\nwith the hope of bringing change to their own community.\n

\n\u201cWe have the right to peacefully assemble,\u201d Erin Hurley, senior\nanthropology major, said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to take back our country and\nput it in the hands of the people, not just one percent.\u201d She is one\nof the organizers of Occupy Valdosta, which will be protesting on Friday\nfrom 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\n

\nThe organization has a Facebook page with over 150 followers, about 75\nof whom are expected to join the protest, according to Hurley, who is\none of the organizers of the event.\n

\nOccupy Valdosta held a meeting on Wednesday, which both students and\ncommunity members attended, to discuss their plans for the protest and\nwhat they hope the movement will achieve for the community and the nation.\n<\/blockquote>\nThe Spectator didn’t publish any pictures, but here’s one:\n

\nThe Spectator included this interesting quote by a professor who wasn’t there:\n\n\n

\n\u201cThe protests are significant as a reflection of frustration with\nthe state of the economy, the lack of progress in job creation, and the\ncrushing debt for many consumers and students,\u201d Dr. James T. LaPlant,\na political science professor, said.\n<\/blockquote>\nAnd this one from someone who was there:\n
\n\u201cI think it\u2019s crucial that college students are involved. With the\nposters for the protest on campus we are expecting a decent turnout\nnumber of students. There should be more discussion about what\u2019s going\non locally and nationally,\u201d Austin Sullivan, a senior anthropology\nmajor, said.\n<\/blockquote>\nAustin and Bobbi Anne Hancock will be on Chris Beckham’s radio show 4PM today,\nWVGA 105.9 FM.\n
