\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHow can we “Know the Laws” as the county’s\r\nfront page says<\/a>,\r\nif a county ordinance being revised isn’t there and isn’t\r\ndistributed when the county is about to vote on it Tuesday evening\r\nafter the Work Session this morning at 8:30 AM?\r\n

\r\n\r\nFor the\r\nNuisance Abatement Ordinance<\/a> the\r\npacket agenda sheet<\/a> says only:\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n

\r\nHISTORY, FACTS AND ISSUES: Lowndes County’s Nuisance Abatement\r\nOrdinance has not been updates since 1992. Due to changes in state\r\nlaw, a new ordinance has been drafted and is ready for\r\nconsideration.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\"300x388<\/a>\r\nWhat 1992 ordinance? Which state law? Where’s the new draft?\r\n

\r\nThe county’s page on\r\n\r\nCounty Ordinances<\/a> says;\r\n

\r\n

\r\nAn ordinance is a local law or regulation enacted by a city or\r\ncounty government. Listed below are county ordinances that are most\r\nrequested by the citizens. If you do not see the ordinance you are\r\nlooking for please call Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Clerk.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nYeah, Gretchen tried that,\r\n\r\nmore than five years ago<\/a>, saying at the time:\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThis body makes ordinances, and some of the ordinances are on the\r\nwebsite. If you go to the state website, and find out where all the\r\nlaws of the state are; go to the city of Valdosta’s website, and\r\nfind out where all the laws of Valdosta are. Go to our website and\r\nonly find out some of the ordinances.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nPaige says she has been diligently working on this and I absolutely\r\npositively believe her. And I know it’s very complicated But I\r\nreally encourage y’all as a body — I’m not trying to tell you\r\nhow to do your job — but to keep the business of our county in\r\norder. Thank you.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nIt must be really very difficult and complicated, because even after\r\nmore than four years of diligent work, still we don’t see\r\na complete list of ordinances on the county’s website,\r\nand we do see the county passing updates to an ordinance without the\r\naffected public being able to see either the old or the new versions.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe county did find time\r\n\r\nto pass an illegal bill of attainder against those asking<\/a>,\r\nand to make that even more obvious by\r\n\r\n\r\nnot enforcing it against others<\/a> less than a month later.\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\nIf the county government doesn’t bother to follow the U.S. Constitution\r\n(Article I, Clause 3), and doesn’t publish its own laws, how can it expect\r\nthe citizens to follow the law?\r\nAnd how can the citizens know when the county tells them to do something\r\nwhether the county’s action is legal?\r\n

\r\nOne could begin to wonder, what is the Lowndes County government hiding?\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHere’s the\r\nagenda<\/a> for this morning and tomorrow evening.\r\n\r\n\"300x203<\/a>\r\n\r\nSee also the\r\nLAKE video of the rezoning when the Planning Commission considered it<\/a> and recommended approval.\r\nCuriously, the GLPC agenda item said it was for Ron Borders, and the\r\nCounty Commission item says\r\nREZ-2015-14 K. V. Ward<\/a>.\r\nWhy the difference?\r\n

\r\nAnd while the agenda has several emergency management items,\r\nstill nothing but crickets about the Sabal Trail pipeline<\/a>.\r\nQuite a difference between Lowndes County’s silence and\r\nHamilton County Florida declaring an emergency<\/a>\r\n and spending 18 minutes interacting with a citizen on the topic.\r\nEven more contrast with\r\nDougherty County and Albany<\/a> passing multiple resolutions and jointly asking Governor Deal to oppose the pipeline.\r\n
