ASHLEY STREET\n<br>COMMISSION CHAMBERS &#8211; 2ND FLOOR\n<br>For more information please contact EMA Director, Ashley Tye, at 671-2790.\n<\/center>\n<\/blockquote>\nSO I called Ashley Tye, who said:\n\n<!--more-->\n<ul>\n<li>\nThis is the second and last public hearing on updates to the county&#8217;s emergency plan, which are required very five years.\n<li>\nThere is no complete draft yet.\n<li>\nThere is a set of powerpoint slides with the main points, and they will be presented tonight.\n<li>\nAny changes necessary from public input will be incorporated.\n<li>\nA final draft will be compiled.\n<li>\nThe County\nCommission will have to adopt a resolution to adopt the plan.\nThere will be no public hearing at the Commission meeting.\n<li>\nFinally, the county will send the plan to GEMA, the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gema.state.ga.us\/\">Georgia Emergency Management Agency.<\/a>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nEmergency management sends out those emergency management telephone calls\nyou can sign up for, including\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/tornado-warning-you-would-have-heard-this-on-noaa-weather-radio.html\">\nweather information<\/a>\nyou could also get on\n<a href=\"\/blog\/category\/noaa-weather-radios\">\ncounty-supplied NOAA Weather Radios<\/a>\nwhen your telephone isn&#8217;t working,\nexcept\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/noaa-weather-radios-wasteful-spending-richard-raines.html\">\nthe Commission declined to accept the federal grant that would have paid for them.<\/a>\nMaybe Richard Raines and I can afford $21 for a radio, but a lot of people can&#8217;t.\n<p>\nSo it could be prudent to find out what&#8217;s being discussed at this hearing.\nHere&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lowndescounty.com\/content.asp?pid=23&#038;id=149\">\nthe online description of that agency:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\nThe Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency\u2019s primary mission is to\nlead the planning and preparedness efforts within Lowndes County.
