All Georgia homeowners should review their insurance\r\npolicy to make sure their coverage is adequate. It was hard to see from the road, but\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walb.com\/story\/29719241\/sinkhole-causes-road-closure-in-lowndes-county\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/walb.images.worldnow.com\/images\/8494171_G.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nWednesday the spot where a pond used to be in the front yard of the\r\nhome on Shiloh Rd. between Parker Rd. and Hall Webb Rd. was a\r\ngrowing sinkhole about 160 ft. across and nearly as deep&#8230;.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nA resident who lives near the sinkhole but didn&#8217;t want to go on\r\ncamera said around five o&#8217; For more information on sinkholes,\r\nplease visit\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.usgs.gov\/fs\/2007\/3060\/pdf\/FS2007-3060.pdf\">\r\nhttp:\/\/pubs.usgs.gov\/fs\/2007\/3060\/pdf\/FS2007-3060.pdf<\/a>.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/sinkholes-towards-the-house.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8180\/7894357494_937c3f8b8a_m.jpg?w=625\"><\/a>\r\nWill Lowndes County now finally do something to help Michael McCormick\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/sinkholes-towards-the-house.html\">\r\nwith that sinkhole under his garage<\/a>?\r\nHe already had VSU professors come out and do ground scans, so there&#8217;s\r\nno doubt it&#8217;s under there.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd this &#8220;fault line&#8221; the county clerk mentioned:\r\nYes, McCormick&#8217;s property on Norman Hall Road, the Cherry Creek and Shadrick Sinks\r\non the Withlacoochee River, Shiloh Road, and Snake Nation Road are all more or less in a line east to west.\r\n<p>\r\nBut that&#8217;s not the only crack in the fragile karst limestone containing\r\nour drinking water Floridan Aquifer.\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/colleges\/arts-sciences\/physics-astronomy-geosciences\/geo-fac-lake-louise.php\">\r\nVSU&#8217;s Lake Louise research station<\/a> on Touchton Road just north\r\nof Lake Park is a sinkhole,\r\nnot to mention probably most of the lakes around Lake Park.\r\nYou only have to glance at a map to see such lakes continue westwards\r\nto the Withlacoochee River.\r\nAnd Spectra Energy from Houston, Texas proposes\r\nto gouge its hundred-foot right of way for its 36-inch Sabal Trail\r\nfracked methane pipeline right through that area.\r\nWhat happens if pipeline construction causes a sinkhole?\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/12\/31\/pipeline-subsidence-is-force-majeure-florida-gas-transmission\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/media.graytvinc.com\/images\/Louisiana+Sinkhole+1.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nWhat if it&#8217;s not immediate?\r\nWhat if it sinks years later in a drought after water pumping nearby?\r\nSabal Trail&#8217;s Andrea Grover told me that they have insurance,\r\ndespite what Spectra Energy&#8217;s annual filings with the SEC say.\r\nBut has the county confirmed that?\r\nWhat if Sabal Trail declares a sinkhole a force majeure (act of God)\r\nevent, which is insurance lingo for ain&#8217;t our problem,\r\nlike\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/12\/31\/pipeline-subsidence-is-force-majeure-florida-gas-transmission\/\">\r\nFlorida Gas Transmission (FGT) did for the infamous 25-acre sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana in 2013<\/a>?\r\nWhat will Lowndes County do then?\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Will nearby buildings fall into this 120-foot sinkhole?
