{"id":1375,"date":"2011-10-20T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-20T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/who-to-contact-about-nuclear-vs-solar.html"},"modified":"2011-10-20T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-10-20T12:00:00","slug":"who-to-contact-about-nuclear-vs-solar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/who-to-contact-about-nuclear-vs-solar.html","title":{"rendered":"Who to contact about nuclear vs. solar"},"content":{"rendered":"Somebody asked who to write about\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/10\/calculate-how-much-vogtle-is-costing-you-mandy-hancock.html\">\nthe nuclear costs Georgia Power is passing through to customers.<\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psc.state.ga.us\/contactinfo.asp\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/fp.psc.state.ga.us\/GUFPA\/Reports\/PSCSeal.png\"><\/a>\nHere&#8217;s the contact page for the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psc.state.ga.us\/contactinfo.asp\">\nGeorgia Public Service Commission.<\/a>\n<p>\nPSC Commissioner Lauren McDonald\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/gapower-to-buy-50-mw-solar-by-2015.html\">\nhas been the most vocal about wanting Georgia Power to do solar.<\/a>\nCommissioner Chuck Eaton and Tim Echols have both\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/psc-lining-up-to-vote-for-solar.html\">said in public they want more solar.<\/a>\nPSC staff member\nTom Newsome\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/georgia-power-wants-taxpayers-to-take-profit-risk-for-new-nukes.html\">\ntried to get gapower to accept a better nuclear profit deal.<\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.legis.ga.gov\/legis\/2011_12\/house\/bios\/parsonsDon.htm\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www1.legis.ga.gov\/legis\/2011_12\/house\/images\/members_web_images\/parsonsDon.jpg\"><\/a>\n<p>\nDon Parsons, chair of the energy committee of the Georgia House of\nRepresentatives,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/georgia-officials-are-getting-it-about-solar.html\">\nwants to write an energy plan for Georgia.<\/a>\nA real one; not that <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/why-solar-cuts-it-better-than-any-other-energy-source.html\">\nbogus one from 2006 that nobody followed anyway.<\/a>\n<p>\nDoug Stoner, Georgia State Senator,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/georgia-officials-are-getting-it-about-solar.html\">\nhas said that<\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.ga.gov\/senators\/en-US\/member.aspx?Member=45\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   width=\"116\" height=\"160\" src=\"http:\/\/www.senate.ga.gov\/SiteCollectionImages\/StonerDoug45.jpg\"><\/a>\nGeorgia Power wasn&#8217;t\nbuilding nuclear plants with private money; they were using public money,\nand that even a public utility is a subsidy.\nSo it appears he gets it.\n<p>\nScott Holcomb, Georgia State Representative,\nwants a state energy policy,\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/georgia-officials-are-getting-it-about-solar.html\">\nand has said:<\/a>\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.legis.ga.gov\/legis\/2011_12\/house\/bios\/holcombScott.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www1.legis.ga.gov\/legis\/2011_12\/house\/images\/members_web_images\/holcombScott.jpg\"><\/a>\nOur lack of an energy policy is an absolute Achilles heel of our national policy.\n<\/blockquote>\nSo we should get on with a real <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/why-solar-cuts-it-better-than-any-other-energy-source.html\">energy strategy for Georgia.<\/a>\n<p>\nClick on the pictures of each of the legislature members for their\ncontact information.\nEven better, contact\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www1.legis.ga.gov\/legis\/FindLegislator.htm\">\nyour state representative or senator.<\/a>\nOr federal, since I think the new Plant Vogtle construction gets\nfederal subsidies, too.\nOr write your local newspaper, or your local TV station, or the AJC.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Somebody asked who to write about the nuclear costs Georgia Power is passing through to customers.
