Dorfman of UGA has said,\r\n&ldquo;is a certain ticket to fiscal ruin* * Or at least big tax increases.&rdquo;\r\n<p>\r\nThe City of Valdosta better watch out! Much of this<!--more-->\r\n\r\n rural revaluation is upstream from Valdosta, and clearcutting and impermeable surfaces would drive still more flood waters right into the city.\r\n<p><a title=\"Greater Lowndes 2030 Comprehensive Plan: Lowndes County Future Development Map\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/8464159160\/sizes\/o\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Greater Lowndes 2030 Comprehensive Plan: Lowndes County Future Development Map\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"https:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8392\/8464159160_ffda82ff85_n.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nMany rural landowners were no doubt surprised to find their valuations almost or more than doubled, but that&#8217;s not the main issue.\r\nThe main issue is this revaluation ignored the Comprehensive Plan\r\nand any need to conserve agricultural land. If we wanted to live in\r\nAtlanta, we would. We don&#8217;t want every tree chopped down or every\r\nacre paved over in Lowndes County.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nFollow\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/loco\/2015-07-14--tax-assessors\/\">\r\nthis link<\/a> for much more.\r\n<p>\r\nThe first step to fixing this is for rural landowners to appeal\r\ntheir revaluation proposed by the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qpublic.net\/ga\/lowndes\/contact.html\">\r\nTax Assessors<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Does this rural land revaluation map resemble the Comprehensive Plan Future Development map?
