but it funded deniers for 27 more years<\/a>,<!--more-->\r\n\r\n\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nA newly unearthed missive from Lenny Bernstein, a climate expert\r\nwith the oil firm for 30 years, shows concerns over high presence of\r\ncarbon dioxide in enormous gas field in south-east Asia factored\r\ninto decision not to tap it\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nExxon didn&#8217;t just know about climate change way back when it wasn&#8217;t\r\na public issue and scientists were just establishing solid evidence,\r\nExxon acted on that knowledge way back then.\r\nAnd nonetheless funded climate denial propaganda for almost three decades.\r\nJust like big tobacco before it.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd now Exxon is back exploring that very same Natuna oil and gas field off \r\nMalaysia, according to\r\n2b1st Consulting, 13 November 2012,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/pttep-to-replace-petronas-in-indonesia-east-natuna-project\/\">\r\nPTTEP to replace Petronas in Indonesia East Natuna Project:\r\nPTTEP to join ExxonMobil, Total and Pertamina<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>In<strong> 2010<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectsmartexplorer.com\/Petronas-eu6.aspx\">Petronas<\/a><\/strong> from <strong>Malaysia<\/strong> had signed <a title=\"Heads of Agreement\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/heads-of-agreement\/\"><strong>Heads of Agreement<\/strong> <\/a>with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectsmartexplorer.com\/Exxonmobil-eu17.aspx\">ExxonMobil<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectsmartexplorer.com\/Total-eu10.aspx\">Total<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong>Pertamina<\/strong>, but on <strong>beginning 2012<\/strong>, the discussions were stopped before converting the <a title=\"Heads of Agreement\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/heads-of-agreement\/\"><strong>Heads of Agreement<\/strong><\/a> into <strong>formal contract.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>The <strong>Indonesia East Natuna block oil and gas field<\/strong> was previously called <strong>Natuna-D Alfa<\/strong>  and is located in the <strong>Riau Islands<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>The <strong>East Natuna field<\/strong> would hold <strong>500 million barrels of crude oil.<\/strong> <\/p>\r\n<p>Then <strong>East Natuna<\/strong> is the <strong>largest untapped <a title=\"Natural Gas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/natural-gas\/\">natural gas<\/a> field in Asia<\/strong>, this <strong>giant <a title=\"Natural Gas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/natural-gas\/\">natural gas<\/a> project<\/strong> is given to contain <strong>222 trillion cubic feet (tcf)<\/strong> of <strong><a title=\"Natural Gas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/natural-gas\/\">natural gas<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a title=\"Proven reserves\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/proven-reserves\/\">in-place reserves<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Despite its size this <strong>East Natuna <a title=\"Natural Gas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/natural-gas\/\">gas<\/a> field<\/strong> present <strong>two challenges<\/strong>:<\/p>\r\n<p><strong> &#8211; 71% of carbon dioxide<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong> &#8211; Remote location in regards of the nearest infrastructures to export the <a title=\"Natural Gas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.2b1stconsulting.com\/natural-gas\/\">natural gas<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>(Emphasis in the original.)\r\n<p>\r\nThe 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska was in a remote location, too,\r\nas was BP&#8217;s Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf,\r\nbut location didn&#8217;t stop them from being disasters never cleaned up.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd see that &ldquo;<strong>71% of carbon dioxide<\/strong>&rdquo;?\r\nSame problem that caused Exxon to back off back in 1981.\r\nYet there&#8217;s Exxon three decades later looking again to unleash\r\nthat CO2 plus 500 million barrels of crude oil and 222 trillion cubic feet of gas to burn, contributing to the world-wide disaster of climate change.\r\n<p>\r\nThe era of fossil fuels is over.
