This follows a consistent upward<br \/>\ntrend, picking up speed in 2006 when 36 percent of Americans favored<br \/>\nmarijuana legalization.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reason.com\/poll\/2011\/10\/18\/new-gallup-survey-majority-of\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\"  src=\"http:\/\/reason.com\/assets\/mc\/emily.ekins@reason.org\/2011_10\/legalizationdrug\/f9nyco05-um-ww_mfbuo9q.gif\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nCCA wrote in its <a href=\"http:\/\/ir.correctionscorp.com\/phoenix.zhtml?c=117983&#038;p=irol-SECText&#038;TEXT=aHR0cDovL2lyLmludC53ZXN0bGF3YnVzaW5lc3MuY29tL2RvY3VtZW50L3YxLzAwMDA5NTAxMjMtMTAtMDE2MzA5L3htbC9zdWJkb2N1bWVudC8xL3BhZ2UvMjQ%3d\"><br \/>\n2010 Annual Report to the SEC:<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe demand for our facilities and services could be adversely affected by<br \/>\nthe relaxation of enforcement efforts, leniency in conviction or parole<br \/>\nstandards and sentencing practices or through the decriminalization<br \/>\nof certain activities that are currently proscribed by our criminal<br \/>\nlaws. For instance, any changes with respect to drugs and controlled<br \/>\nsubstances or illegal immigration could affect the number of persons<br \/>\narrested, convicted, and sentenced, thereby potentially reducing demand<br \/>\nfor correctional facilities to house them.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That would be reduced demand for correctional facilities like<br \/>\nthe private prison the Industrial Authority wants CCA to build in<br \/>\nLowndes County, Georgia.<br \/>\nGov. Deal already signed a bill that sets up a panel to look into<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/onlineathens.com\/stories\/042311\/new_818735279.shtml\"><br \/>\nsentencing reform for drug offenses.<\/a><br \/>\nDo Valdosta and Lowndes County want to be like<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2011\/03\/28\/134855801\/private-prison-promises-leave-texas-towns-in-trouble\">Littlefield, Texas<\/a><br \/>\nwhose private prison closed,<br \/>\nor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/new-virginia-prison-sits-empty-at-a-cost-of-more-than-700000-a-year\/2011\/05\/25\/AGXZqwEH_story.html\"><br \/>\nGrayson County, Virginia,<\/a><br \/>\nwhose state prison never opened?<br \/>\nIn both cases after a lot of tax money was spent?<\/p>\n<p>\nWe don&#8217;t need a private prison in Lowndes County, Georgia.<br \/>\nSpend those tax dollars on rehabilitation and education instead.<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time ever, a majority of Americans favor legalizing marijuana use, which is one of the major dangers to CCA&#8217;s private prison business plan, according to CCA itself.
