\nThe latest Gallup poll shows a record high of 50 percent of Americans\nin favor of legalizing marijuana use. This follows a consistent upward\ntrend, picking up speed in 2006 when 36 percent of Americans favored\nmarijuana legalization.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<\/a>\n

\nCCA wrote in its \n2010 Annual Report to the SEC:<\/a>\n\n\n

\nThe demand for our facilities and services could be adversely affected by\nthe relaxation of enforcement efforts, leniency in conviction or parole\nstandards and sentencing practices or through the decriminalization\nof certain activities that are currently proscribed by our criminal\nlaws. For instance, any changes with respect to drugs and controlled\nsubstances or illegal immigration could affect the number of persons\narrested, convicted, and sentenced, thereby potentially reducing demand\nfor correctional facilities to house them.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat would be reduced demand for correctional facilities like\nthe private prison the Industrial Authority wants CCA to build in\nLowndes County, Georgia.\nGov. Deal already signed a bill that sets up a panel to look into\n\nsentencing reform for drug offenses.<\/a>\nDo Valdosta and Lowndes County want to be like\nLittlefield, Texas<\/a>\nwhose private prison closed,\nor \nGrayson County, Virginia,<\/a>\nwhose state prison never opened?\nIn both cases after a lot of tax money was spent?\n

\nWe don’t need a private prison in Lowndes County, Georgia.\nSpend those tax dollars on rehabilitation and education instead.\n
