\nThere is good reason why Stephen Hawkins once said “the greatest\nenemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of\nknowledge.” When entities like Fox News can claim that “solar won’t\nwork in America because it’s not as sunny as Germany”, we shouldn’t\nbe surprised by the results of such “educational” efforts. The fact\nis that we have a number of clean and renewable forms of energy\n(e.g. wind, solar, geothermal) that already work. Just go to\n\nSpain<\/a>,\n\nGermany<\/a>,\n\nDenmark<\/a>, Iceland, or simply stay in the US and visit places\nlike from\n\nNew Jersey<\/a>\nand\n\nNew York<\/a>\nto\n\nCalifornia<\/a>\nand\n\nArizona<\/a>. Combine\nthese pieces of a larger energy puzzle with meaningful initiatives\nof\n\nenergy conservation and energy efficiency<\/a>, and we find a way out\nof our current predicament (i.e. continuing dependence on finite and\ndirty sources of energy), while saving money (see\n\nsolar vs. nuclear<\/a>),\npreserving our natural resources (e.g. water, forests),\nand providing clean, healthy and safe environments to live in (e.g.\nwind and solar do not produce radioactive waste, pollute our air and\ngroundwater).\n<\/p>\n

\nThe guest columnist appearing above is the same individual who\nthought\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

\nthat the Crystal River nuclear power plant was still\noperating, when in fact this financial nightmare had been idle since\n2009, and now has been shut down permanently\n\nas announced by Duke Energy on February 5, 2013<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n
