{"id":1317,"date":"2011-11-03T12:56:36","date_gmt":"2011-11-03T16:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/financial-issues-of-consolidation-lcboe-1-november-2011.html"},"modified":"2011-11-03T12:56:36","modified_gmt":"2011-11-03T16:56:36","slug":"financial-issues-of-consolidation-lcboe-1-november-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/financial-issues-of-consolidation-lcboe-1-november-2011.html","title":{"rendered":"Financial Issues of Consolidation @ LCBOE 1 November 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UPF5v9GD0Oo\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/i2.ytimg.com\/vi\/UPF5v9GD0Oo\/default.jpg\"><\/a>\nVideo of the open forum Tuesday night at Lowndes High School\nwhere the Lowndes County Board of Education thoroughly addressed\nnew evidence found by both them and CUEE.\nPartly through the information they presented at\n<a href=\"\/blog\/category\/lcboe-4-october-2011\">\ntheir previous forum of 4 October<\/a>,\nthey provoked dialog with CUEE in the form of several email\nmessages from consolidation proponents distributed by the Chamber of Commerce.\nAt Tuesday&#8217;s forum the Lowndes board and staff took CUEE&#8217;s messages\nas questions, looked up the answers (for example, how much did\ntaxes rise in places where there was school consolidation recently?)\nand worked the result into their own computations.\nThe general answer is still that consolidation wouldn&#8217;t improve\neducation and would raise property taxes to near the state-mandated\ncap, yet that wouldn&#8217;t be enough to preserve all the existing\nschool programs, and teachers and staff would also have to be\nlet go.\n<p>\nSo the Lowndes Board and the Valdosta board\n(several VBOE members plus Supt.
