Asked if all protocols worked\r\nproperly in response to the fire, he said he was &#8220;not prepared to\r\nsay that yet.&#8221;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;This was a relatively minor situation, but when you&#8217;re talking\r\nabout a nuclear power plant there are no really minor situations,&#8221;\r\nCuomo said, calling the plant &#8220;controversial&#8221; because it is &#8220;a\r\nstone&#8217;s throw from one of the most densely populated urban areas on\r\nthe planet. Foam or oil could enter the river through storm drains,\r\nhe said.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nMeanwhile, the\r\nNuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reading-rm\/doc-collections\/event-status\/event\/en.html\">\r\nCurrent Event Notification Report for May 8, 2015<\/a>\r\n(NRC doesn&#8217;t post reports on weekends)\r\nsays even less:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nOFFSITE NOTIFICATION DUE TO SHUTDOWN FOR AN UNISOLABLE STEAM LEAK\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;At 0700 on 5\/7\/15, Indian Point Unit 3 commenced a shutdown due to\r\nthe inability to isolate a steam leak on a feedwater instrument\r\nline.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;Offsite power is available.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;Indian Point Unit 2 is unaffected and remains in Mode 1 at 100%\r\npower.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;The NRC Resident Inspector, the NYISO (New York Independent System\r\nOperator), and NY Public State Commission have been notified.&#8221;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAnd that&#8217;s not the only reactor down today.\r\nThe same report says of Oyster Creek 1 in New Jersey:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nAUTOMATIC REACTOR SCRAM DUE TO TURBINE TRIP\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;Today at 1727 EDT, an automatic scram from a turbine trip occurred.\r\nThe cause of the turbine trip is currently under investigation. All\r\nrods inserted into the core and all systems functioned as expected\r\nduring the scram.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;The event is reportable within 4 hours per\r\n10CFR50.72(b)(2)(iv)(B)&mdash;any event or condition that results in\r\nactuation of the reactor protection system (RPS) when the reactor is\r\ncritical except when the actuation results from and is part of a\r\npre-planned sequence during testing or reactor operation.&#8221;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nPlant response to the scram was uncomplicated and the plant is\r\nstable in Mode 3.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe licensee has notified the NRC Resident Inspector.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nNevermind that\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/adamswebsearch.nrc.gov\/webSearch2\/view?AccessionNumber=ML15028A390\">\r\nNRC reported 28 January 2015 after inspection of Oyster Creek<\/a>:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nThe NRC inspectors did not identify any findings or violations of\r\nmore than minor significance.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThree Mile Island 1 isn&#8217;t in the latest Current Event Notification Report,\r\nalthough NRC data shows TMI1 dropping from 100% power; see the black line:\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<a title=\"1032x627 Newly Low including Three Mile Island, in Nukes Low and Down, by John S.
