Asked if all protocols worked<br \/>\nproperly in response to the fire, he said he was &#8220;not prepared to<br \/>\nsay that yet.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;This was a relatively minor situation, but when you&#8217;re talking<br \/>\nabout a nuclear power plant there are no really minor situations,&#8221;<br \/>\nCuomo said, calling the plant &#8220;controversial&#8221; because it is &#8220;a<br \/>\nstone&#8217;s throw from one of the most densely populated urban areas on<br \/>\nthe planet. Foam or oil could enter the river through storm drains,<br \/>\nhe said.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nMeanwhile, the<br \/>\nNuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reading-rm\/doc-collections\/event-status\/event\/en.html\"><br \/>\nCurrent Event Notification Report for May 8, 2015<\/a><br \/>\n(NRC doesn&#8217;t post reports on weekends)<br \/>\nsays even less:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\n<p>\nOFFSITE NOTIFICATION DUE TO SHUTDOWN FOR AN UNISOLABLE STEAM LEAK\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;At 0700 on 5\/7\/15, Indian Point Unit 3 commenced a shutdown due to<br \/>\nthe inability to isolate a steam leak on a feedwater instrument<br \/>\nline.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Offsite power is available.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Indian Point Unit 2 is unaffected and remains in Mode 1 at 100%<br \/>\npower.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;The NRC Resident Inspector, the NYISO (New York Independent System<br \/>\nOperator), and NY Public State Commission have been notified.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nAnd that&#8217;s not the only reactor down today.<br \/>\nThe same report says of Oyster Creek 1 in New Jersey:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\n<p>\nAUTOMATIC REACTOR SCRAM DUE TO TURBINE TRIP\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Today at 1727 EDT, an automatic scram from a turbine trip occurred.<br \/>\nThe cause of the turbine trip is currently under investigation. All<br \/>\nrods inserted into the core and all systems functioned as expected<br \/>\nduring the scram.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;The event is reportable within 4 hours per<br \/>\n10CFR50.72(b)(2)(iv)(B)&mdash;any event or condition that results in<br \/>\nactuation of the reactor protection system (RPS) when the reactor is<br \/>\ncritical except when the actuation results from and is part of a<br \/>\npre-planned sequence during testing or reactor operation.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nPlant response to the scram was uncomplicated and the plant is<br \/>\nstable in Mode 3.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe licensee has notified the NRC Resident Inspector.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nNevermind that<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/adamswebsearch.nrc.gov\/webSearch2\/view?AccessionNumber=ML15028A390\"><br \/>\nNRC reported 28 January 2015 after inspection of Oyster Creek<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\n<p>\nThe NRC inspectors did not identify any findings or violations of<br \/>\nmore than minor significance.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThree Mile Island 1 isn&#8217;t in the latest Current Event Notification Report,<br \/>\nalthough NRC data shows TMI1 dropping from 100% power; see the black line:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\n<a title=\"1032x627 Newly Low including Three Mile Island, in Nukes Low and Down, by John S.
