\r\n\r\nYesterday morning<\/a> the County Planner seemed perplexed about\r\n\"2.<\/a>\r\nthe Vallotton family request to go back to the most agricultural\r\nzoning, E-A.\r\nYet he was there when Bill Langdale explained \r\nthat at the\r\n\r\nPlanning Commission 30 March 2015<\/a>, aided by multiple Planning Commissioners,\r\nplus a few words from me.\r\n

\r\nHe didn’t bring agriculture to the city; the city come to him….\r\n

\r\nI think it’s going to be real hard one day trying to eat this concrete.\r\n

    \r\nWe need more land in agriculture, rather than less.\r\nAnd this land has been agricultural since long before any of the adjoining subdivisions.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

    \r\nAlso speaking for the rezoning, John S. Quarterman<\/a>.\r\n

    \r\nAs an agricultural landowner with E-A zoning, it’s refreshing to see someone else wanting to keep part of Lowndes County that way.\r\n

    \r\n\r\n\"300x238<\/a>\r\nAlso, as the president of WWALS Watershed Coalition, which is the watershed organization for this area,\r\nI assume you’re all aware that much of Cherry Creek is actually in the subject property, which is also upstream not only from Cherry Lake,\r\nbut the Cherry Creek Sink, right at the Withlacoochee River.\r\nWhich like Shadrick Sink, right across the river, leaks down into the aquifer.\r\nIf I’m not mistaken, Shadrick Sink is the reason Valdosta already had to put its water wells 400 feet deep to get under the river water that’s in the aquifer.\r\nSo this use, this agricultural use of the land, is probably better for that land upstream from the sink, than other uses that might let contamination into the creek and then down to the sink and into the aquifer.\r\n

    \r\nSo for those reasons I’d like to say I’m in favor of this rezoning.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

    \r\nSee above Lowndes County Tax Assessors map for\r\nVallotton Farms (both the part outlined in red\r\nthat appears to be the subject of the rezoning and the bigger part west of Bemiss Road) on Cherry Creek, upstream from the dam and from\r\nand upstream from Cherry Creek Sink<\/a> on the\r\nWithlacoochee River, which leaks into our drinking water in the Floridan Aquifer.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

    \r\nAs you can see in the video,\r\nat least two Commissioners agreed from the podium with the speakers for agriculture,\r\nand another thanked me after the meeting was over (as did Bill Langdale).\r\n

    \r\nI agree with Mr. Langdale and Mr. Quarterman, agriculture is needed in the county,\r\nand it is refreshing to see this movement.\r\n

    \r\nAs long as I can remember, I remember Vallotton Dairy being there.\r\nIt’s always been agriculture.\r\nIt’s not agriculture coming to the city, the city come to him.\r\nSo I’ve got a little heartburn about trying to force somebody that always,\r\nalways had agriculture; he didn’t just start it two years ago; it’s been there\r\nall along, and I’d like for you to keep that in mind: he didn’t bring agriculture to the city; the city come to him….\r\n

    \r\nI’m glad to see us trying to preserve some agricultural land, because\r\nI think it’s going to be real hard day trying to eat this concrete.\r\n

    \r\nI’m not a big fan of what<\/em> they grow there (Monsanto crops with pesticides), but that’s more readily fixable than houses and streets where farmland now is. \r\n
