database doesn&#8217;t show it.\nI confirmed later today with Dr. Acree that he had sold 16 acres\nto Phillip Connell several years ago.\nVery interesting; if it is even Old State Road they&#8217;re considering closing (see below).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a title=\"Public Hearing sign on Old State Road\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/8465984341\/sizes\/z\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c36c97b3d970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c36c97b3d970b-pi.jpg\"  alt=\"Public Hearing sign on Old State Road\"  \/><\/a>\nWhat sort of public hearing is it going to be tomorrow evening\nwhen this new information was not revealed to the public even\nin the Work Session, and the only way the public could find out\nwas by going and asking a Commissioner personally?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn positive news, various Commissioners expressed approval of the\nidea of\n\n<!--more-->\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/acree-park-at-hotchkiss-landing.html\">a park at the Alapaha River.<\/a>\nBut at least one of them said the Commission would vote to close\nthe road tomorrow unless Dr. Acree personally appeared and said\nhe didn&#8217;t want it closed, or sent a letter to that effect.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAll this about what Commissioners said is hearsay, of course,\nbecause none of it was said during\nthe actual Commission meeting when the LAKE video camera was running.\nIf\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/videos-surprise-trash-hotchkiss-landing-3-rezonings-3-contracts-lcc-2013-02-11.html#KLVB\">\n<strike>not<\/strike> littering is a moral issue,<\/a>\nas Commissioner Raines said during the actual meeting,\nwhy is informing the public of relevant information before a public hearing\nnot a moral issue?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd why should one person be able to request a road be closed\nwhen the Commission already knows\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/video-hearing-about-abandoning-old-state-road-at-the-alapaha-river-lcc-2010-10-26.html\">\n450 people don&#8217;t want it closed?<\/a>\nAnd why should the Commissioners put the weight of the decision\non the shoulders of one elderly doctor?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nFinally, Brett Huntley reports:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\nFinally put the sign up, late Thursday afternoon.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s the public hearing notice sign on Old State Road.\nI&#8217;m sure it&#8217;s coincidental that it appeared later the same day\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/public-notice-for-public-hearing-on-abandoning-part-of-old-state-road-leading-to-the-alapaha-river.html\">\nI pointed out it wasn&#8217;t there yet.<\/a>\nFive days before the hearing isn&#8217;t much public notice, is it?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a title=\"2010 public hearing sign\" href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/public-hearing-for-road-abandonment-of-old-state-road-lcc-2010-10-26.html\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" alt=\"2010 public hearing sign\"   width=\"240\" height=\"180\"  src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d40bda1ef970c-pi.jpg\"><\/a>\nCompare that sign to\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/public-notice-for-public-hearing-on-abandoning-part-of-old-state-road-leading-to-the-alapaha-river.html\">\nthe one from 2010<\/a>.\nSee any difference beyond the dates?\nThe old one says CO Road #16, which is Old State Road.\nBut the new one says CO Road #126, which is Good Hope Road,\naccording to the county&#8217;s own list of roads.\nSo has the Commission changed its mind and decided to close Good Hope Road tomorrow?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"After the Monday morning&#8217;s Lowndes County Commission Work Session was over, a couple of Commissioners indicated to inquiring citizens that they had seen a contract by which Acree Investments LTD sold land on both sides of Old State Road to the Alapaha River to Phillip Connell.
