\nThey’ve run into some resistance at the polls.<\/p>\n

\nCobbEMC Owners Association<\/a>, a group of customers dedicated to the
\nreform of the EMC\u2019s Board of Directors has made great steps in returning
\ncontrol of the utility to its customers. CEOA-endorsed candidates took
\nthree out of four seats today, with the fourth candidate narrowly missing
\na majority with 49.47% of votes cast.<\/p>\n

\nOnly 1.3% of eligible customers voted, with 2471 votes being cast. Winners
\nwere:
\n
\n<\/a><\/p>\n

\nArea 1, Ed Crowell 79%
\n
\nArea 6, David Tennant 68%
\n
\nArea 10, Cheryl Meadows 80%\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hm, 4 to 1 odds!
\nThat reminds me of
\n
\nanother recent election.<\/a>
\nApparently when the people get organized fat cats can lose big.
\nCobb EMC’s incumbents already
\n
\nlost a special election back in September,<\/a>
\nthat one about mail-in voting.<\/p>\n

\nAbout the Cobb EMC runoff,
\nKim Isaza wrote for MDJonline.com today,

\nEMC members elect 3 new directors; Area 7 goes to runoff<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThe runoff comes in the area 7 race. Charles Malcolm \u2018Cooter\u2019 Swanson
\nalmost won outright in the seven-person field, earning 1,203 votes,
\nor 49.47 percent.<\/p>\n

\nIncumbent RJ Patel came in a distant second, earning 354 votes, or
\n14.56 percent.<\/p>\n

\nNext were Karen Thornburgh, with 276 votes (11.35 percent); Paul Phillips,
\nwith 212 votes (8.72 percent); Dr. Larry Baker, with 168 votes (6.91
\npercent); Charles Spann, 144 votes (5.92 percent); and William Cominos,
\n75 votes (3.08 percent). Cominos did not attend the 10 a.m. meeting to
\naddress members.<\/p>\n

\nSwanson, who owns a screen-printing business, needed only about 13 more
\nvotes to win outright, and acknowledged he was disappointed.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cI would have liked this to be done and over with. But the EMC\u2019s
\nworth fighting for, so I\u2019m willing to keep on,\u201d he said.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And Patel has not conceded.
\nSo we’ll see.<\/p>\n

\nThis doesn’t look good for Patel:<\/p>\n

\n
\n<\/a>
\nBut Phillips, another of the area 7 candidates, took shots at Patel
\nduring the 10 a.m. meeting of members, criticizing Patel for his votes
\nto seek to rehire embattled and indicted chief executive Dwight Brown,
\nand to pay Brown a hefty consulting fee of $59,000 a month.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ah, yes,
\nindicted Dwight Brown<\/a>
\nwho
\ngot off on a technicality.<\/p>\n

\nSo we’ll see at least three new faces on the
\n
\nKremlin wall<\/a>,
\nand maybe four.
\nHm, how many directors are there?
\n
\nTen<\/a>, so even four new ones is not a majority.
\nIt could be enough to bring some sense to that board
\nwhile waiting for the next election to get enough on there
\nto tear down the Kremlin wall.<\/p>\n
