Solomon wrote for DCVelocity today,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcvelocity.com\/articles\/20111115florida_east_coast_railway_expansion\/\">\nFlorida East Coast to add Valdosta, Ga., to relay rail network<\/a>,\nExpansion will take place early next year.\n<blockquote>\nFlorida East Coast Railway Co. (FEC) said today it would add Valdosta,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/fecrwy.com\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/fecrwy.com\/sites\/default\/files\/fec_logo.png\"><\/a>\nGa., to its so-called relay rail network, which allows truckers to drop\noff trailerloads with the FEC and have the railroad, rather than the\ntruckers, transport the freight down the Florida peninsula to Miami. The\nexpansion will take place early next year, the railroad said.\n<p>\nJacksonville, Fla.-based FEC already operates such a service at Savannah,\nwhere truckers delivering loads originating in the Midwest and Southeast\ndrop their loads with FEC at the Georgia city. FEC then trucks the trailer\nto its railhead in Jacksonville, where it is transloaded onto one of its\ntrains for the 350-mile overnight trip to Miami. The trucker can then pick\nup a trailer in Savannah, a major manufacturing and distribution center,\nfor the westbound return trip.
