Veolia, excuse me, Advanced Disposal showed up to try to\ndefend their record so far with their new exclusive franchise solid\nwaste contract.\nAlso at this morning’s Work Session of the Lowndes County Commission,\nthree rezonings, three contracts,\nand some new wrinkles on\n\nthe proposed closing of\nthe part of Old State Road leading to Hotchkiss Landing on the Alapaha River<\/a>,\nrevealed after<\/em> the session was over.\nThey vote Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM.\n<\/p>\n

      \nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted clarification that some statements\nwere made at the 5:30 PM Regular Session, not in the morning.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n

    3. \n\nAppointment – Keep Lowndes\/Valdosta Beautiful<\/a>\n

      \nAaron Strickland spoke about KLVB,\n$50,000\/year budget,\n12 member board,\nposition available on the board,\nformerly held by Evan Shuckman of Wild Adventures,\nrelocated to New York at the end of 2012.\nThree candidates:\nAlthea Spriggs,\nNick Henson (also a Wild Adventures employee),\nand\nKim Pascale.\nPresumably the correct spellings were in the Commission packets\nwhich we the taxpayers who pay that $50,000\/year budget don’t get to see.\nStrickland said Spriggs and Pascale were present.\nHe then praised the Commission for their recent trash decision,\nclaiming it would encourage recycling and cut down on roadside trash.\n<\/p>\n

      \nCommissioner Raines then said he thought littering was a moral issue, because\n<\/p>\n

      \nIn our modern society it’s not hard to find even a public waste basket\nor trash cans.\n<\/blockquote>\n

      \nSure, in the city.\nWhat does that have to do with the unincorporated parts of the county?\n<\/p>\n

          \nCounty Engineer repeated a minimal rereading of the case and\nCommissioners had no questions.\nBut see\n\nseparate post<\/a>\nfor what they said afterwards.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        2. \n\nREZ-2012-20 Corbett Property, US 41 S & Newsome Rd. E-A to C-H, Well & Septic, ~5 acres<\/a>\n

          \nCommissioner Crawford Powell said he had spoken with the applicant and\nwould be adding a few requirements tomorrow evening.\nPlus he wanted County Planner Jason Davenport to get the applicant\na copy of the airport overlay requirements.\nHm, so Commissioners can direct county staff to hand over documents\nwithout an open records request being filed.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        3. \n\nREZ-2013-01 Barrentine, David Rd E C-H to R-1, Well & Septic, 1.29 acres<\/a>\n

          \nSome sort of letter of opposition is expected.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

            \nFormalization required by new SC legislation.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

            \nBasically, the Tax Commissioner would have been without any\nretirement plan because of a recent County Commission decision,\nbut they decided to fix that.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
