<\/a>\nCould it be the many items the county is deleting, having to do with\nfeeding seniors, health care, transportation,\nwork ethics and life skills,\nenvironmental impacts, agriculture, wells, wetlands, and many other topics,\nsome of which Gretchen Quarterman detailed to the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission yesterday?\n\nAfter Valdosta and Hahira City Planner Matt Martin explained\nhow all the local city governments had or were going to have\nhearings about their\n\nComprehensive Plan Short Term Work Program updates,<\/a>\nthe GLPC Chairman asked if any citizens wanted to speak on that topic.\nOne citizen did, Gretchen Quarterman.\nShe apologized for missing the September GLPC meeting\nbecause she would have raised some of these issues then.\n \nBut I want to let you know that at the County Commission\n\ndid not hold a public hearing after the changes.<\/a>\nI was at the [Valdosta] City Council meeting,\nand the City Council did hold a public hearing,\nbut the County Commission did not.\n \nAnd I believe that is\n\nin violation of DCA’s guidelines.<\/a>\nThey sent a transmission letter that said they followed\nDCA’s guidelines.\nDCA’s guidelines say hold a public hearing.\nIt was on the agenda, the public hearing, but no public hearing was held.\nSo I didn’t have an opportunity to see\n\nthe document,<\/a> or to comment, before the county sent it.\n<\/blockquote>\nShe said she would provide written comments to Jason the next morning,\nand asked if GLPC would like to hear some of them.\nThey said they would, so she read some of them.\nFor example:\n \nA GLPC member remarked:\n \nHere’s\n\nthe video:<\/a>\n \n\nI have an appointment with [Lowndes County Planner] Jason [Davenport]\ntomorrow to address some of my questions.\n
\nIn Section 1.3 it was struck from the document:\n

\ntransportation,\ncommercial resources that are developed to attract retirees.\nFor example feed the elderly programs senior nutrition centers.\n<\/blockquote>\nIt was my understanding the feed the elderly program was cut from the\nLowndes County budget because they didn’t have money for it.\nI don’t really know why are we cutting out\n“Ensure supporting services such as health care, transportation,\ncommercial resources that are developed to attract retirees.”\nWe’re a retirement community that’s one of the things we do.\nSo I don’t know why that was struck.\n<\/blockquote>\nThere’s more, about work ethics and life skills,\nenvironmental impacts, agriculture, wells, wetlands, etc.\nShe also thanked the City of Valdosta for supplying the county document\nin response to an open records request.\n
