<\/a>\nContinuing the <\/a>\nContinuing the \nComprehensive Plan Short Term Work Program (STWP) updates<\/a>,\nthe chairman asked if the board was ready\n\nLowndes County Planner Jason Davenport responded:\n
\nWe’re not done working on this.\nBut if you think it’s time to bring it before y’all.\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<\/a>\nLater, at about 11:40 in, Davenport clarified:\n
\nAnd the only that’s different right now is Lowndes County.\nBecause Lowndes County did not hold\na public hearing as required, so we’re on a different timeline.\nAnd if Mrs. Quarterman would have given me about until December 13th\nshe would have seen that.\n\nBecause our initial resolution was not the same as the other communities.\nWe’re on a little bit of a different timeline\nbecause we have to address that issue.\nThat’s one thing;\nthe county in this instance will be handled a little different\nthan some of the smaller cities and Valdosta.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat would be the initial resolution the county\n\n
<\/a>\n\ndid not provide in response to an open records request<\/a> about the draft\nthe county did not publish as\nrequired by the state.\nIf the county had answered questions weeks ago,\ninstead of waiting until they had to do makeup homework,\n\nnobody would have had to ask about it at that GLPC meeting….<\/a>\n
\nAnyway, the County Planner has said there will be a public hearing.\nHowever, remember it was the County Chairman who said that\n\nthe public hearing item on the agenda was not really a public hearing.<\/a>\nIt’s the Chairman, not the Planner,\nwho sets the agendas for the County Commission.\nWe’ll see what’s on the 13th December County Commission Agenda,\nand whether it really is handled as a public hearing in that meeting.\n
\nThen GLPC Board Member John Page expressed his concerns:\n\n\n
\nI see a lot of things that say “funded”.\nWhere’s the funding going to come from?\n<\/blockquote>\nValdosta City Planner Matt Martin explained that the specific\nitem Page picked was actually to be funded by the Chamber of Commerce.\n\nPage continued by expressing his objection to city or county\ngovernments funding any cultural programs, for example\n
\nmulticultural programs and all this kind of stuff….\n<\/blockquote>\nHe summed it up as\n\na lot of big government control.\n<\/blockquote>\nCurious how nobody saw it that way five years ago when the\nComprehensive Plan was approved after many hearings involving\nthe whole community.\nThere was more discussion, for example, Matt Martin explained\nthat the STWP was a plan for implementation of the larger goals\nof the Comprehensive Plan.\nPage’s bottom line was:\n\nWhat if we say we don’t want to do it?\n<\/blockquote>\nMartin and Davenport\nresponded that could happen, but then the local governments\nwould lose the certification status that permits them to\nreceive state funds.\nGLPC member Bill Slaughter spoke up for the staff and the plan,\nsaying he was involved as a citizen in the development of the\nComprehensive Plan.\n\nYou can see the discussion for yourself.\nHere’s\n\nthe video:<\/a>\n
