\r\nA local veterinarian will speak to the Lowndes County Commission\r\nMonday to discuss the possibility of an anti-chain ordinance.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nDr. Amanda Hall has been working for more than a year to obtain\r\npetitions and develop a presentation to the commission regarding\r\nchaining dogs, according to the county.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“It is a fact that over half the calls responded to by Animal\r\nWelfare officers are related to dogs that are being kept improperly\r\non a chain,” said Paige Dukes, Lowndes County clerk.\r\n“Issues related to chaining include poor general health, no\r\naccess to water, embedded collars, strangulation, no access to\r\nappropriate shelter during times of extreme heat or cold and\r\naggression from day after day of trying to run only to be snapped\r\nback by a chain to whatever the dog may be anchored to.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe current animal control ordinance states that it is unlawful for\r\nan animal to not be restrained. There are no mandates on what types\r\nof leash are lawful or unlawful.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nIt’s good the Commission is scheduling local citizens to speak\r\nabout potential ordinances in their Work Sessions.\r\n
