{"id":1189,"date":"2012-01-06T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-06T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/01\/map-of-prisons-in-georgia.html"},"modified":"2012-01-06T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-06T13:00:00","slug":"map-of-prisons-in-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/01\/map-of-prisons-in-georgia.html","title":{"rendered":"Map of prisons in Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDOC) does not provide\na map of prisons in Georgia; at least not that I&#8217;ve been able to find.\nCCA does not provide a map of its private prisons, either.\nThis omission seems odd for an industry that brags about how good it is\neconomically.\n<p>\nBut someone has composed\n<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.yourgmap.com\/v\/t\/xj\/Georgia_Prisons_Map.html\">\nthis google map<\/a>\nthat gives the big picture.\nI don&#8217;t know if this map is current or accurate, but the spot checks\nI&#8217;ve made show markers for real prisons.\nDid you know there were so many?\n<p align=\"center\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.yourgmap.com\/v\/t\/xj\/Georgia_Prisons_Map.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7007\/6644249737_e8ef35cd72_o.png\"><\/a>\n<p>\nApparently,\n<ul>\n<li>\nthe reddish circles are county prisons;\n<li>\nthe red arrows are state prisons for men like Valdosta State Prison;\n<li>\nthe yellow arrows are state prisons for women\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcor.state.ga.us\/GDC\/FacilityMap\/html\/washington_sp.html\">Pulaski<\/a>)\nor juveniles\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcor.state.ga.us\/GDC\/FacilityMap\/html\/arrendale_state_prison.html\">Arrendale<\/a>),\nexcept Washington State Prison\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcor.state.ga.us\/GDC\/FacilityMap\/html\/washington_sp.html\">\nappears to be back to housing men<\/a>;\n<li>\nthe blue arrows are Regional Youth Detention Centers (RYDC);\n<li>\nand the green arrows are at least some of CCA&#8217;s private prisons,\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/valdosta-lowndes-county-industrial-aut\nhority-stop-the-cca-private-prison-aka-project-excel\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"  width=\"118\" height=\"118\"  src=\"http:\/\/change-product\nion.s3.amazonaws.com\/photos\/8\/oe\/vb\/YwOevBBwDsdQUBT-236x236-cropped.jpg\"><\/a>\nPrisons are <a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/01\/rural-prisons-economic-bane-or-bust.html\">\nbad economics<\/a>, producing no longterm improvement in employment, and risking closure, leaving communities with expensive white elephants.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/valdosta-lowndes-county-industrial-aut\nhority-stop-the-cca-private-prison-aka-project-excel\">\nWe don&#8217;t need a private prison in Lowndes County, Georgia.<\/a>\nSpend those tax dollars on rehabilitation and education instead.\nFollow\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/valdosta-lowndes-county-industrial-aut\nhority-stop-the-cca-private-prison-aka-project-excel\">\nthis link<\/a>\nto petition the Valdosta-Lowndes County Industrial Authority.\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDOC) does not provide a map of prisons in Georgia; at least not that I&#8217;ve been able to find.
