\nIf you incarcerate more people and you put more people in\nyour private prisons you make more money.\nWhich provides perverse incentives against reforming our justice system.\n\n<\/a>\nAnd increasing the number of people we’re putting in prison,\nwhether they need to be there or not, just to generate corporate profit.\nI think that’s incredibly immoral and unethical,\nI think that’s the worst aspect of our private prison industry.\n<\/blockquote>\nThis comes from the ACLU’s\n\nPrison Voices, Episode 1: Private Prisons<\/a>:\n\n\n

\n\n<\/a>\nThe ACLU’s National Prison Project has released\n\na report<\/a> about the\nprivate prison industry. In\n\nthis podcast,<\/a>\nwe’ll be hearing from an\nexpert on private prisons, Alex Friedmann. A former prisoner who served\n10 years in Tennessee prisons, Friedmann is now the associate editor for\n\nPrison Legal News<\/a>\nand the President of the\n\nPrivate Corrections Institute,<\/a>\na non-profit watchdog group that opposes for-profit prison.\n<\/blockquote>\nFriedmann also said:\n
\nIf we want to reduce reliance on private prisons,\nwe need to reduce our prison population.\n<\/blockquote>\n
