\nAccording to the\n\nMinutes of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber Board of Directors meeting held\nTuesday, January 17, 2012, 8 \u2013 9:30 a.m. at Country Inn & Suites<\/a>:\n

\n\n<\/a>\nConsider Finance Committee recommendation regarding acquisition\nof Education Framework:<\/strong> Clinton Beeland made a motion that the\nChamber Board provide $30,000\ntowards the repayment of debt incurred by the Committee for a\nReferendum on School System Unification with local business vendors.\n\n<\/a>\nIn\nreturn for this consideration, the Chamber is to receive the ownership\nrights to and the future use of the professional publication entitled\n“An Education Framework”. Carl Holley seconded. After a\nthorough discussion, motion carried unanimously.\n<\/blockquote>\nI wonder what was said in that “thorough discussion”?\nMaybe which local vendors Chamber members’ dues are subsidizing by paying off\nCUEE’s debts?\nMaybe who owns those vendors, and what their relations might be to the CUEE or\nChamber boards?\n

\nAnything more substantial than Chamber or CUEE people said in\n\nthe meeting at VSU 20 October 2011<\/a>\n\n<\/a>\nin which\n\nthat “framework”<\/a> was never actually presented to a group invited in the middle\nof the night?\n

\n“Future use”, eh?\nSo\n\noutspending 10 to 1 yet losing the school consolidation election 4 to 1<\/a>\ndidn’t give the Chamber pause,\nany more than the Chamber paid any attention to\n\nthe copious evidence that consolidation is a bad idea that makes\neducation worse.<\/a>\n

\nInstead of pouring more money down the CUEE rathole,\nI think\n\nJim Parker had a good idea for the Chamber:<\/a>\n\n<\/a>\n

\nHow about as a first step the Chamber pledge an equivalent amount of\nmoney it and its members have spent on CUEE to the Boards of Education\nyearly, to be used as the teachers see fit?\n<\/blockquote>\nI’m sure the two school boards could use $150,000 each for their teachers.\n

\nHow about it, Chamber?\nWant to show some leadership?\n
