How is it that a single foreign corporation can have greater power and say than the hundreds of property owners and their supporters?&rdquo; asked Jim Parker\r\nin\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/11\/videos-pipeline-agriculture-lighting-appointments-and-parks-lcc-2014-11-11.html\">\r\nthe 11 November 2014 Lowndes County Commission Regular Session<\/a>.<!--more-->\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9kBw9lTKdJQ?list=PLshUv86fYkiEJoyxihQxf7Cv4dMd2SMMU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s his text:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nChairman Slaughter, fellow commissioners,\r\n<p>\r\nMy name is James Parker, I live at ___ in the city of Valdosta.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nI come before you today to humbly request that you follow in the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/11\/11\/consider-panhandle-route-page-2-of-dougherty-county-sabal-trail-resolution\/\">\r\nfootsteps of the Dougherty County Commission<\/a>, and pass a resolution\r\nin opposition to the Sabal Trail pipeline passing through Lowndes\r\nCounty.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThis proposed pipeline provides absolutely no benefit to any citizen\r\nliving in Lowndes County, nor, in fact, to any citizen living in the\r\nState of Georgia. Yet Sabal Trail wants, no, demands, that they be\r\nallowed to run this 36-inch pipeline through hundreds of private\r\nproperties, taking a hundred foot wide path that the property owners\r\ncan no longer have full use of, thus negatively affecting the value\r\nof their property.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nOver the last year, I have seen hundreds of property owners and\r\ntheir supporters speak at numerous meetings against this pipeline.\r\nNever once have I heard a local citizen speak in support of this\r\npipeline. The only people I have ever heard speak in the pipeline&#8217;s\r\nfavor have been paid representatives of the corporation.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIn my opinion, Sabal Trail has been less than straight up in its\r\ndealings with Lowndes County citizens. For example, Sabal Trail has\r\nfallaciously, and I would say deceptively, asserted eminent domain\r\nin its letters to landowners, in order to give Sabal Trail access to\r\ntheir properties to survey them. Lacking such consent, Sabal Trail\r\nhas been known to trespass on the properties in order to survey them\r\nanyway.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nWhy should the residents of Lowndes County, citizens like you and\r\nme, have to let this foreign corporation, Sabal Trail, run roughshod\r\nover us? Why do we have to kneel before their wishes? How is it that\r\na single foreign corporation can have greater power and say than the\r\nhundreds of property owners and their supporters? Why should we\r\nliving, breathing, human citizens have to yield and step aside and\r\ngive up our property to this corporation and its pecuniary\r\ninterests? Are we human beings now second class citizens in our own\r\ncounty and country? It looks to me, right now, that what a\r\nmulti-billion company, that isn&#8217;t even from here, wants to do trumps\r\nall the local citizenry, their wishes, and property rights.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThis august Commission are the elected representatives of the\r\ncitizens of Lowndes County. I ask that you protect and defend the\r\nproperty owners and other citizens of Lowndes County against the\r\nonslaughts of this foreign entity.
