Public Hearing: Abandonment of a portion of Old State Road (CR 16)<\/a>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-style: normal;\">\nYou can see in the video that the room was packed, which is very unusual.\nThe great majority were there to oppose closing the road.\nAs Chairman Bill Slaughter\nremarked, about nine people signed up for Citizens Wishing\nto Be Heard to speak about this item; as he noted, anyone can speak\nin a public hearing without signing up.\nTo my knowledge, only one person was there to speak for closing the road,\nand that was the applicant who had just agreed to ask for it to be tabled.\nThe Chairman said:\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nBut based on the amount of folks that&#39;s going to be here,\nand citizens to be heard,\nwe&#39;re going to limit it to fifteen minutes on each side,\non any of the issues,\nand each individual will get five minutes.\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"font-style: normal;\">\nPersonally, I don&#39;t see what&#39;s the rush, and I&#39;d think that a room\nfull of people who want to speak would indicate a publicly-elected\nCommission would want to take <em>more<\/em> time to hear them, not less.\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-style: normal;\">\nAs\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/tabled-for-two-weeks-proposed-old-state-road-to-alapaha-river-lcc-2013-02-12.html\">\npreviously reported,<\/a>\nthe Commission tabled this item for two weeks.\nCommissioner John Page made the motion, Commissioner Demarcus Marshall\nseconded, Commissioner Joyce Evans asked how long,\nCounty Attorney said it could be for a specified time or\nuntil they vote to take it up again.\nMover and seconder amended to say table to next meeting.\nCommissioner Richard Raines asked if they needed\ntwo motions, one to table the public hearing, and one\nto table the vote.\nChairman responded that only one vote was needed.\nHe then took the vote by voice, and it was unanimous.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSo this item comes back up at the Work Session 8:30 AM\nMonday morning 25 February 2013,\nwith a vote at the Regular Session 5:30 PM Tuesday 26 February 2013.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Update:<\/strong> Here&#8217;s\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QOIg-aNJwzU\">\nthe video:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QOIg-aNJwzU?list=PLshUv86fYkiFZGIESGH4nFyalDPIIUTMm\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"First the Chairman talked about how many people could speak and for how long in the public hearing; then at Tuesday evening&#39;s Regular Session the Commission tabled it for two weeks, so closing the only public access to the Alapaha River in Lowndes County will be up for a vote again Tuesday 26 February 2013.
