\nVALDOSTA — The Georgia Water Coalition has named the proposed
\nSabal Trail pipeline as one of its Dirty Dozen for 2014, which
\nhighlights “12 of the worst offenses to Georgia’s
\nwaters,” according to the organization.\n<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>
\nThe pipeline is proposed to run under the Withlacoochee river, near
\nValdosta.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In a

\npress release<\/a>,
\n the GWC cited the risk of contaminating
\nsouthwest Georgia’s well water, rivers and streams, as well
\n
\n
\n<\/a>
\n as noise
\nand air pollution from a proposed compressor station situated near
\nAlbany.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe GWC also cited the possible dangers of the pipeline, citing two
\nexplosions in particular — a 2011 explosion in Alabama that
\ntorched 65 acres of forest, and a 1994 explosion on a Spectra Energy
\npipeline that ruined an apartment complex, leaving hundreds
\nhomeless.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The story cited the dangers of sinkholes in karst limestone
\nsuch as encloses our Floridan Aquifer drinking water, and quoted
\nthe GWC press release:<\/p>\n
