{"id":11077,"date":"2014-10-23T11:54:12","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T15:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=11077"},"modified":"2014-10-23T12:00:12","modified_gmt":"2014-10-23T16:00:12","slug":"protest-at-valdosta-sabal-trail-office-2014-10-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/10\/protest-at-valdosta-sabal-trail-office-2014-10-21.html","title":{"rendered":"Protest at Valdosta Sabal Trail office 2014-10-21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nJoe Adgie wrote for the VDT 22 October 2014,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/local_news\/residents-protests-sabal-trail\/article_13bb8c22-59a2-11e4-8568-4bc4f8e58d1d.html?mode=print\">\r\nResidents protests Sabal Trail<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/local_news\/residents-protests-sabal-trail\/article_13bb8c22-59a2-11e4-8568-4bc4f8e58d1d.html?mode=print\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/bloximages.chicago2.vip.townnews.com\/valdostadailytimes.com\/content\/tncms\/assets\/v3\/editorial\/4\/7b\/47b9dd4e-59a2-11e4-b0a5-8b5fe10da75d\/5447303363a50.image.jpg?resize=760%2C564\"><\/a>\r\nVALDOSTA &mdash; A group of around 40 Valdosta and Lowndes County\r\nresidents went to the Sabal Trail&#8217;s Valdosta office on Tuesday\r\nafternoon in protest of the group&#8217;s proposed pipeline.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe group, many of which carried signs displaying their opposition\r\nto the pipeline, discussed the impact of a pipeline on the area.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nDr. Michael Noll, president of Wiregrass Activists for Clean Energy,\r\ndiscussed wanting to educate the community about the dangers of a\r\nnatural gas pipeline.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;We also want to<!--more--> educate them also on the possibilities they\r\nhave to comment with FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee,\r\nwhich deals with projects such as this,&rdquo; Noll said. &ldquo;We\r\nwant to highlight aspects of connections that exist between the\r\npolitical and corporate machine.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nDr. Noll referred to the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/07\/28\/fl-gov-scott-scandal-in-lake-city-reporter\/\">\r\nFL Gov. Rick Scott scandal<\/a>, in which Scott owned Spectra stock\r\nbefore FL PSC approved Spectra and FPL&#8217;s Sabal Trail pipeline.\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;What you have is a situation where they are trying to sell\r\nyou a product which is supposed to be for the public interest, but\r\nit&#8217;s really for profit interest,&rdquo; Noll said. &ldquo;The\r\npipeline that leads from Central Alabama to Central Florida is being\r\nconsidered because there is a lucrative export market.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nI introduced the reporter to Bill Kendall, and took this picture\r\nof that interview and the one below of Nanci Kendall.\r\nBill Kendall&#8217;s sign refers to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/10\/04\/albany-herald-breaks-ga-gov-deal-spectra-campaign-contributions\/\">\r\nSpectra donating $10,000 to the re-election campaigns of\r\nGeorgia Gov. Nathan Deal<\/a> (and also to those of Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, and Tennessee Gov.\r\nBill Haslam<\/a>).\r\nI think that was mentioned in the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/10\/12\/sabal-trail-opposition-gets-national-media-attention\/\">11 October 2014 Ray Henry AP story<\/a>\r\nthat ran in the VDT the next day.\r\nThe first picture above of Tom Hochschild and a walking pipeline is by the VDT.\r\nAdgie quoted Bill Kendall as saying he&#8217;s against eminent domain for\r\nprivate companies, and:\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a title=\"1600x1200 Bill Kendall, in Protest at Valdosta Sabal Trail office, by John S. Quarterman, 21 October 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/4d2f0884032c78465c50f56e32ca1e20.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nKendall explained that he owns 17 acres of land in three tracts, and\r\nthat the land would be harmed severely by a pipeline. Kendall has\r\nowned the land since 1992.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;The Sabal Trail people want to avoid a little wet place\r\nthat&#8217;s going to cost $1,500,000 to dig under, and go across my\r\npasture land because it&#8217;s high and dry,&rdquo; Kendall said.\r\n&ldquo;That&#8217;s going to wipe out my farm, man. I&#8217;ve worked all my\r\nlife for this dadgum farm, and I&#8217;m proud of that thing, and here\r\nthey are, just going to come and wipe it out. What right do they\r\nhave to do that?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;I couldn&#8217;t care less about their stinkin&#8217; pipeline, and so\r\ncould all of these other people,&rdquo; Kendall said. &ldquo;I&#8217;d\r\nrather have my land.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nKendall works as a land surveyor, and explained that there were few\r\nfarms that had that kind of land available for horses and other\r\nanimals.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;Where are you going to find something like that to move\r\nto?&rdquo; Kendall said. &ldquo;I don&#8217;t want to live on this stupid\r\npipeline, and I don&#8217;t want it going through my property, just for\r\ntheir convenience.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a title=\"1600x1200 Nanci Kendall, in Protest at Valdosta Sabal Trail office, by John S. Quarterman, 21 October 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/e6e0772466edb8765ab739477a2357a6.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nHere&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/09\/30\/make-sabal-trail-resurvey-all-the-properties-bill-kendall\/\">\r\nBill Kendall&#8217;s ecomment to FERC of 30 September 2014<\/a>\r\nin which he asked for FERC to vacate surveys  taken through permission obtained through misleading letters, and make Sabal Trail resurvey only those properties whose landowners give permission after being informed important information such as that Sabal Trail cannot use Georgia eminent domain.\r\nHere are handy\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/10\/30\/sample-no-permission-letters\/\">\r\ndeny or rescind<\/a> permission letters for landowners who don&#8217;t want to wait on FERC.\r\n<p>\r\nAdgie interviewed another directly-affected landowner:\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;Where it&#8217;s coming across is within a couple of hundred feet\r\nof where I sit every morning and have my morning wake-up,&rdquo;\r\nsaid Rick Hastings. &ldquo;I asked the gentleman with the pipeline\r\nwho was standing on my front porch if there happened to be a leak in\r\nthe pipeline, and there was an explosion, what would happen?
