\r\nCCA has absolute discretion in issuing or withholding the NTP.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\nWhat kind of local government body gives a private company “absolute discretion”\r\non whether to proceed with a project?\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWhat happened to those appointed officials’ own discretion as to the\r\nappropriateness of a project for the community?\r\nWhat if their due diligence turns up something unacceptable?\r\nFor example, that CCA told Decatur County that\r\n\r\nboth Lowndes and Decatur are getting a private prison<\/a> (one state and one federal),\r\nso the guff CCA told VLCIA about Lowndes being the primary site was disingenuous at best.\r\nHow about if\r\n\r\nCCA has already breached the contract<\/a>\r\nby not supplying a required document?\r\nHow about if VLCIA receives\r\n\r\nconvincing arguments from the community<\/a>\r\nthat a private prison is a bad business deal?<\/a>\r\n
\r\nIndeed,\r\n\r\ndisaster capitalism or the shock doctrine<\/a>\r\nis nothing like the capitalism Adam Smith recommended.\r\nThe main point of the\r\n\r\npetition against CCA’s private prison in Lowndes County<\/a> is that\r\nit’s a bad business deal: it wouldn’t save money; it wouldn’t increase employment;\r\nand it would be likely to close, leaving us all owing money.\r\n
\r\nDid the Valdosta City and Lowndes County elected governments appoint these people\r\nto abdicate their authority to a private company?\r\nMaybe they did, since\r\n\r\nthose elected officials are in cahoots on this deal<\/a>.\r\nCCA lauded them all for their support after<\/em> VLCIA signed the contract with that\r\n“absolute discretion” language in it.\r\nDoes that seem right to you?\r\n

<\/a>\r\nFlorida has just demonstrated that\r\n\r\npeople of all parties can\r\njoin together successfully to oppose prison privatization.<\/a>\r\nLet’s do that right here in Lowndes County and stop the private prison!\r\n
