Buddy Carter,\nthe bill&#8217;s main sponsor.\n<p>\nThe state&#8217;s main electricity provider, Georgia Power, is opposing\nthe legislation, pointing to the state&#8217;s Electric Service Act.\n<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/chihrig\">\n<img style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   width=\"192\" height=\"250\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/a0.twimg.com\/profile_images\/1250588558\/Vegas_Aug_08.JPG\"><\/a>\nCreated nearly four decades ago, the law established assigned\nterritories for the power company, along with 42 electric membership\ncooperatives and 52 cities with municipal systems, all competing for\ncustomers.\n<p>\nSpokeswoman Christy Ihrig said in a statement that the proposed bill\nwould illegally infringe on the company&#8217;s territory and that the\nintroduction of a new supplier could drive up rates for customers\nbecause utilities would be required to hike costs.
