Including VSEB and land acreage!"},"content":{"rendered":"Yesterday Andrea Schruijer promised to get an agenda for\ntomorrow&#8217;s 2PM Thursday 23 February 2012 Industrial Authority board meeting (101 N. Ashley Street)\nonline.\nIt&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.industrialauthority.com\/file\/Agenda%20Summary%202012-02-21%281%29.pdf\">there<\/a>,\nand it has content!\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/localappt.php#JerryJennett%22\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/php\/include\/govt\/vlcia\/jerry.jpg\"><\/a>\nWhat it does <em>not<\/em> have is any mention of\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/02\/news-about-ccas-project-excel-expected-at-thursdays-vlcia-board-meeting.html\">\nanything about Project Excel, or CCA, or the private prison<\/a>,\neven though Ms. Schruijer told me yesterday to expect the board\nto say something about that.\nYou can still\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/02\/still-time-to-contact-vlcia-board-before-tomorrows-private-prison-decision.html\">\nexpress your opinion to them before then.<\/a>\nAnd since this agenda says\n<span style=\"color:red\">\n**TENTATIVE**\n<\/span>\nmaybe that item will get added before tomorrow afternoon.\n<p>\nAlso missing is\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/02\/request-for-bid-2012-strategic-plan-process-vlcia.html\">\nany item for the Strategic Planning RFP,<\/a>\neven though that RFP says the board will review any responses received by their February board meeting.\n<p>\nWhat this agenda does have is numerous specific items\nunder the usual broad headers such as\nExisting Industry\/Project Report.\nSo instead of listening to Col. Ricketts\nand trying to figure out what he&#8217;s talking about,\nyou can see such things as\n&#8220;e-Snychronist\u00ae Existing Industry Retention\nand Expansion business information system (BIS)&#8221; in writing.\nYou still don&#8217;t see names of the\n&#8220;five (5) Prospects&#8221;\nor the &#8220;three (3) companies that are developing expansion plans&#8221;.\nMaybe I buy the competitive information argument for the prospects,\nbut I&#8217;m not so sure about the three expanding companies, especially\nif they&#8217;re already local.\nAnd considering the things VLCIA has tried to sneak in under cover\nof not mentioning competitive information, such as biomass and a private prison,\nI&#8217;m not sure I buy that argument at all.\n<p>\nAlso on the plus side, the agenda includes an actual schedule for bids\n\n<!--more-->\non a project related to Miller Business Park:\n<blockquote>\nWe completed landscape\/irrigation installation bid documents, released an\nAdvertisement for Bids, conducted a pre-Bid Meeting and received sealed\nbids for completion of the project. We&#8217;ll present the bids to the VLCIA\nBoard for final review\/acceptance and award of the contract on Tuesday,\n21 February 2012.\n<\/blockquote>\nThat&#8217;s more than the Lowndes County Commission usually does.\n(Nevermind the date is wrong; the board meeting is really tomorrow,\nThursday, 23 February 2012.)\n<p>\nVLCIA staff are acting like they&#8217;re taking small businesses seriously:\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/small-emerging-businesses-mr-robinson-vlcia-19-july-2011.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/i3.ytimg.com\/vi\/bl2eMg7brr0\/default.jpg\"><\/a>\nWe met with the Assistant City Manager (Human Resources) and\ndiscussed\/identified opportunities to improve the Valdosta Small Emerging\nBusiness (VSEB) Program and strengthen our partnership in supporting\ncommunity outreach initiatives to promote the program.\n<\/blockquote>\nThere&#8217;s something that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/small-emerging-businesses-mr-robinson-vlcia-19-july-2011.html\">\nRoy Copeland and John Robinson appear to agree on.<\/a>\n<p>\nAnd, finally making public something that former Chairman Jerry Jennett\nasked for back at Brad Lofton&#8217;s final board meeting (15 March 2011),\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/5285675232\/in\/photostream\/\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5047\/5285675232_18e43ff32a_m.jpg\"><\/a>\nthis agenda includes\nan actual list of numbers and acres of tracts of land in the\nvarious VLCIA business parks.\nHe&#8217;s been <a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/06\/vlcia-land-accounting.html\">\nfollowing up on that ever since.<\/a>\nCongratulations to Jerry Jennett and VLCIA staff for\nrevealing to the public what that $15 million\n(<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/03\/vlcia-bonds.html\">\nor $23.5 million<\/a>)\nbond issue went to buy!\n<p>\nWell, most of it.\nThe list in the agenda seems to add up to 494 acres.\nWhere the rest of the 577 acres we&#8217;ve been seeing on the agenda for\nmonths and months?\nIt&#8217;s only 83 acres more&#8230;.\n<p>\nOh, and who did you buy it from?\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.industrialauthority.com\/file\/Agenda%20Summary%202012-02-21%281%29.pdf\">\nthe agenda.<\/a>\nIt has the date wrong; We&#8217;ll present\nthe bids to the VLCIA Board for final review\/acceptance and award of the contract on Tuesday, 21\nFebruary 2012.\n<\/ul>\n<li>\nWestside Business Park\n<ul>\n<li>\nWe received bids, presented the bids to the VLCIA Board for final review\/approval and award of a\ncontract for Phase 1 Infrastructure work (water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, roadway, erosion,\nsedimentation and pollution control) required to support the Durocky Road, LLC &mdash; DuPont Project\ncurrently under construction.
