Even<br \/>\npeople who don&#8217;t work on base probably recognize that those planes<br \/>\nare far away from the maintenance area and runway on the north end<br \/>\nof the base.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nWhile I&#8217;d think they could find land that already didn&#8217;t have trees on it,<br \/>\neven what they&#8217;re doing is still better than<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/09\/17\/sabal-trail-response-to-ferc-directive-of-26-august-2014\/\">gouging a 600-mile hundred-foot-wide right of way<br \/>\nfor the 36-inch Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nBack to the Telegraph:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\n<p>\nLeach wasn&#8217;t sure when the solar panels might start going up, but it<br \/>\nshould be soon, since the project is expected to be completed in<br \/>\nJanuary.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Air Force announced in July it has signed a 20-year lease deal<br \/>\nwith New Generation Power to build the array, expected to produce 10<br \/>\nmegawatts of electricity that will be sold to Georgia Power, which<br \/>\nprovides the base&#8217;s power.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhile the power generated will not directly serve the base, it is<br \/>\nestimated to be enough to account for an eighth of the base&#8217;s power<br \/>\nconsumption.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBecause it is produced on base, it will help the base meet mandates<br \/>\nfor alternative energy usage.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nAnd that&#8217;s a lot faster than a pipeline can be installed, too.<\/p>\n<p>\n -jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WCTV via AP 5 October 2014, Solar project underway at Robbins Air Force Base, The Telegraph reports that land has been cleared on a 57-acre tract near Georgia Highway 247 to make room for solar panels.
