\nSomething good out of Chattanooga?\nThe city with the fastest metropolitan Internet access\nplans to turn that into jobs.\n<\/p>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nis home to most advanced smart grid in the nation, customers are\nenjoying Internet speeds that are almost 100 times faster than the\nnational average. Most Internet users in the U.S. have access to\nabout 4.5 megabits of Internet speed.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nWe wish!\nOK, you can get spees that fast here:\n\nwith Verizon 4G LTE<\/a>,\nnot too many places via land access.\n<\/p>\n

\nSo what’s Chattanooga got that’s better?\n<\/p>\n\n\n

\nYet the 600 square mile fiber optic grid under Chattanooga offers\nresidents and businesses a blazing 50 megabits. Business leaders are\ncapitalizing on the fast Internet speeds by launching two\ninitiatives to attract bright minds to the city, create jobs and\nstimulate the economy.\n<\/p>\n

\nGeekMove and the GigTank:\n<\/p>\n

\nYou might call them “Geeks” but Chattanooga civic and business\nleaders see this new crop of Internet wizards, software developers\nand computer programmers as future residents. They are hoping their\nnew incentive program called, “GeekMove” will attract tech ‘geeks.’\nIt’s an offer loaded with paid relocation expenses and mortgage\nassistance.\n<\/p>\n

\n“The thought behind the ‘GeekMove’ is \u2014 we have this gig fiber\nhere \u2014 why wouldn’t people who need that gig fiber want to\ncome take advantage of it every day,” Garrison said. “[It’s] so\nrewarding when we do get those folks who are on board with us\n\u2014 they want to be here in Chattanooga, and they want to come\nbe a part of what’s going on here.”\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nThey’re over-micromanaging it with a committee,\nbut at least they’re trying something.\nAnd\n\nthey’re doing it in public<\/a>,\ninstead of behind closed doors.\n<\/p>\n
