Quarterman, 14 September 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/4c8d44bcd5871a72fce68a73a44f4317.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThe Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) route was a bit harder, because\r\nFGT&#8217;s maps are very vague.\r\nand the\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npms.phmsa.dot.gov\/PublicViewer\/\">\r\nNational Pipeline Mapper<\/a> shows you only county by county and\r\nnot much local detail to compare to.\r\nThe Florida Public Service Commission has\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.psc.state.fl.us\/publications\/pdf\/electricgas\/naturalgasutilities.pdf\">\r\na somewhat informative map<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\nThis deliberate vagueness is apparently because natural gas pipelines are national security\r\nassets.\r\nTerrorism, you know.\r\nSo remind me,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/08\/27\/pipelines-as-enemy-targets\/\">\r\nwhy would we want to build more of these really obvious enemy targets<\/a>?\r\n<p>\r\nYou can compare an FGT map to a map of Florida counties:\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/floridagas.org\/NaturalGasInformation\/Facts\/tabid\/141\/Default.aspx\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/floridagas.org\/portals\/4\/images\/facts-map.gif\"><\/a>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyburbia.org\/gallery\/showphoto.php\/photo\/19924\/title\/florida-counties\/cat\/6457\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cyburbia.org\/gallery\/data\/6457\/Florida_counties_map.gif\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAnd if you turn on satellite view in google maps and zoom in,\r\nyou can <em>see<\/em> the FGT pipelne as its right of way gouges\r\na wide swath through every forest in its path, just like\r\nSabal Trail wants to do.\r\nSo I used that to draw <a href=\"https:\/\/mapsengine.google.com\/map\/edit?mid=z4XXnEL-t9Yg.kHRaYtnnb664\">this rough map<\/a> of FGT from south of Capps to I-75,\r\npassing through Perry, Florida, and parts of Jefferson, \r\nTaylor, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Columbia Counties, Florida.\r\nPlus it would cross the\r\nAucilla, Ecofina, and Suwannee Rivers, and after it joins\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/09\/alternative-1-us-82-i-75-fl-turnpike-ferc-to-sabal-trail.html\">Alternative 1<\/a>, it still would cross the Santa Fe River.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a title=\"1009x467 FGT from Capps to I-75, in Alternative 3: Armena to Capps to FGT FERC to Sabal Trail, by John S. Quarterman, 14 September 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/54c91f87a6fd480f563ce94b96700ebc.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fema.gov\/media-library\/assets\/images\/64853\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"https:\/\/s3-us-gov-west-1.amazonaws.com\/dam-production\/uploads\/ec77011a-4415-4669-b430-0f60d45e522f\/57788_medium.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nJefferson County is the one that already passed\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/08\/20\/jefferson-county-fl-stopped-nestle-counties-can-stop-sabal-trail\/\">\r\na land-use ordinance<\/a>\r\nto prevent Nestl&eacute; or any other water bottling company from\r\nsucking up its local waters.\r\nWell, Jefferson County, Sabal Trail wants to cross your \r\nAucilla River.\r\nPlus pressure testing that pipeline\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/04\/23\/explain-why-the-gas-is-needed-epa-to-ferc\/\">\r\nwould require a lot of water<\/a>\r\nthat would also have to go back contaminated into local watersheds,\r\nas the EPA reminded FERC back in April.\r\nHere&#8217;s an\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/09\/02\/action-letter-to-county-commissioners-against-sabal-trail-pipeline\/\">\r\naction letter<\/a> suggesting that and other possibilities\r\nfor county commissions and city councils, not to mention state and federal\r\nagencies.\r\n<p>\r\nWhat say we call off the pipeline and deploy clean, safe, affordable\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/hot-topics\/solar.html\">\r\nsolar power<\/a> instead, for jobs, power, and lower electric bills right\r\nhere where we need them?\r\nAfter all,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/06\/twice-the-acreage-than-solar-for-sabal-trail-pipeline-to-produce-the-same-power-ferc-2014-03-05.html\">\r\nSabal Trail&#8217;s own figures show<\/a>\r\nit would take half the land of that pipeline to produce just as much solar power.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Watch out Dougherty, Mitchell, and Thomas Counties Georgia, and Jefferson, Taylor, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Columbia Counties, Florida, and the Flint, Ochlockonee, Aucilla, Ecofina, Suwannee, and Santa Fe Rivers: Alternative 3 is for you!
