\r\nWatch out Dougherty, Mitchell, and Thomas Counties Georgia,\r\nand Jefferson, Taylor, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Columbia Counties, Florida, and the Flint, Ochlockonee, Aucilla, Ecofina, Suwannee, and Santa Fe Rivers: Alternative 3 is for you!\r\nCounty Commissions and city councils in the county seats of Camilla, Thomasville,\r\nMonticello, Perry, Mayo, Live Oak, and Lake City\r\nmay want to\r\n\r\ntake action<\/a> like Jefferson County already did to stop water bottling,\r\nas may Alachua, Gainesville, Ocala, Wildwood, The Villages, and Ferndale in Alachua, Marion, Sumter, and Lake Counties, Florida.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x341<\/a>\r\n\r\nAlternative 3<\/a> in\r\nFERC’s recent instructions for Sabal Trail to “include analyses” begins\r\nlike\r\n\r\nAlternative 2<\/a> near Armena, GA and goes through Albany,\r\nthen veers due south.\r\n

\r\n\r\nAlternative 3<\/a>\r\nbeginning at approximately MP 141 (near Albany, Georgia) and following Highway 82 to Highway 19 (Slappy Boulevard) in Albany, Georgia; then following Highway 19 through Albany, Camilla, and Thomasville, Georgia to the FGT pipeline corridor south of Capps, Florida; then following the FGT pipeline corridor to I-75 and the Alternate 1 and 2 routes to the proposed endpoint.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHere’s a\r\n\r\nvery rough map of the whole route of Alternative 3<\/a>, including the FGT pipeline part:\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"600x671<\/a>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x737<\/a>\r\nThe north-south part of the route was pretty easy to follow from\r\nMile Point 141 as in\r\nAlternative 2<\/a>\r\nto Capps, Florida along the highways FERC specified,\r\nthrough Albany, Camilla, Pelham, Thomasville, and Monticello,\r\nand crossing the Fint and Ochlockonee Rivers.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"300x232<\/a>\r\nThe Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) route was a bit harder, because\r\nFGT’s maps are very vague.\r\nand the\r\n\r\nNational Pipeline Mapper<\/a> shows you only county by county and\r\nnot much local detail to compare to.\r\nThe Florida Public Service Commission has\r\n\r\na somewhat informative map<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nThis deliberate vagueness is apparently because natural gas pipelines are national security\r\nassets.\r\nTerrorism, you know.\r\nSo remind me,\r\n\r\nwhy would we want to build more of these really obvious enemy targets<\/a>?\r\n

\r\nYou can compare an FGT map to a map of Florida counties:\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAnd if you turn on satellite view in google maps and zoom in,\r\nyou can see<\/em> the FGT pipelne as its right of way gouges\r\na wide swath through every forest in its path, just like\r\nSabal Trail wants to do.\r\nSo I used that to draw this rough map<\/a> of FGT from south of Capps to I-75,\r\npassing through Perry, Florida, and parts of Jefferson, \r\nTaylor, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Columbia Counties, Florida.\r\nPlus it would cross the\r\nAucilla, Ecofina, and Suwannee Rivers, and after it joins\r\nAlternative 1<\/a>, it still would cross the Santa Fe River.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"600x278<\/a>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nJefferson County is the one that already passed\r\n\r\na land-use ordinance<\/a>\r\nto prevent Nestlé or any other water bottling company from\r\nsucking up its local waters.\r\nWell, Jefferson County, Sabal Trail wants to cross your \r\nAucilla River.\r\nPlus pressure testing that pipeline\r\n\r\nwould require a lot of water<\/a>\r\nthat would also have to go back contaminated into local watersheds,\r\nas the EPA reminded FERC back in April.\r\nHere’s an\r\n\r\naction letter<\/a> suggesting that and other possibilities\r\nfor county commissions and city councils, not to mention state and federal\r\nagencies.\r\n

\r\nWhat say we call off the pipeline and deploy clean, safe, affordable\r\n\r\nsolar power<\/a> instead, for jobs, power, and lower electric bills right\r\nhere where we need them?\r\nAfter all,\r\n\r\nSabal Trail’s own figures show<\/a>\r\nit would take half the land of that pipeline to produce just as much solar power.\r\n
