\nCounty Commissions and city councils in the county seats of Camilla, Thomasville,
\nMonticello, Perry, Mayo, Live Oak, and Lake City

\ntake action<\/a> like Jefferson County already did to stop water bottling,
\nas may Alachua, Gainesville, Ocala, Wildwood, The Villages, and Ferndale in Alachua, Marion, Sumter, and Lake Counties, Florida.<\/p>\n

\nFERC’s recent instructions for Sabal Trail to “include analyses” begins
\nlike

\nAlternative 2<\/a> near Armena, GA and goes through Albany,
\nthen veers due south.<\/p>\n

\nbeginning at approximately MP 141 (near Albany, Georgia) and following Highway 82 to Highway 19 (Slappy Boulevard) in Albany, Georgia; then following Highway 19 through Albany, Camilla, and Thomasville, Georgia to the FGT pipeline corridor south of Capps, Florida; then following the FGT pipeline corridor to I-75 and the Alternate 1 and 2 routes to the proposed endpoint.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nThe north-south part of the route was pretty easy to follow from
\nMile Point 141 as in
\nAlternative 2<\/a>
\nto Capps, Florida along the highways FERC specified,
\nthrough Albany, Camilla, Pelham, Thomasville, and Monticello,
\nand crossing the Fint and Ochlockonee Rivers.<\/p>\n

\nThe Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) route was a bit harder, because
\nFGT’s maps are very vague.
\nand the
\n
\nNational Pipeline Mapper<\/a> shows you only county by county and
\nnot much local detail to compare to.
\nThe Florida Public Service Commission has
\n
\na somewhat informative map<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nThis deliberate vagueness is apparently because natural gas pipelines are national security
\nassets.
\nTerrorism, you know.
\nSo remind me,
\n
\nwhy would we want to build more of these really obvious enemy targets<\/a>?<\/p>\n

\nYou can compare an FGT map to a map of Florida counties:<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>

\n<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd if you turn on satellite view in google maps and zoom in,
\nyou can see<\/em> the FGT pipelne as its right of way gouges
\na wide swath through every forest in its path, just like
\nSabal Trail wants to do.
\nSo I used that to draw this rough map<\/a> of FGT from south of Capps to I-75,
\npassing through Perry, Florida, and parts of Jefferson,
\nTaylor, Lafayette, Suwannee, and Columbia Counties, Florida.
\nPlus it would cross the
\nAucilla, Ecofina, and Suwannee Rivers, and after it joins
\nAlternative 1<\/a>, it still would cross the Santa Fe River.<\/p>\n

\nJefferson County is the one that already passed
\n
\na land-use ordinance<\/a>
\nto prevent Nestlé or any other water bottling company from
\nsucking up its local waters.
\nWell, Jefferson County, Sabal Trail wants to cross your
\nAucilla River.
\nPlus pressure testing that pipeline
\n
\nwould require a lot of water<\/a>
\nthat would also have to go back contaminated into local watersheds,
\nas the EPA reminded FERC back in April.
\nHere’s an
\n
\naction letter<\/a> suggesting that and other possibilities
\nfor county commissions and city councils, not to mention state and federal
\nagencies.<\/p>\n

\nWhat say we call off the pipeline and deploy clean, safe, affordable
\n
\nsolar power<\/a> instead, for jobs, power, and lower electric bills right
\nhere where we need them?
\nAfter all,
\n
\nSabal Trail’s own figures show<\/a>
\nit would take half the land of that pipeline to produce just as much solar power.<\/p>\n
