DeKalb\r\nCounty is the only other county in the state that currently allows\r\nSunday voting.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nI was at the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/09\/board-packet-lcc-2014-09-08.html\">\r\nLowndes County Commission meeting Tuesday<\/a>, and I never\r\nheard them mention this.\r\nSo I called Lowndes County Election Supervisor Deb Cox and <!--more-->she said &#8220;we&#8217;re state, not county&#8221;\r\nso no, the Lowndes County Commission does <em>not<\/em> have to approve it.\r\nShe also said Lowndes really was second. Several other counties\r\nare considering it, but their boards of election have not yet approved it.\r\nShe is in constant communication with the Georgia Secretary of State \r\nabout that, and as of yesterday (after Lowndes approved it),\r\nno counties other than DeKalb had.\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndesdems.org\/2014\/09\/10\/sunday-voting\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lowndesdems.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/208dba3696df0de203b94e34fdc7a6e7.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThis\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndesdems.org\/2014\/09\/10\/sunday-voting\/\">\r\nhappened because<\/a>\r\nGretchen Quarterman as Chair wrote a letter Monday on behalf of the Lowndes County\r\nDemocratic Committee, which voted in support of that letter,\r\nasking the Board of Elections for Sunday voting.\r\nThe Board of Elections had its regular meeting Tuesday and\r\nvoted unanimously to do that; Gretchen was there and reported it at the time,\r\nand Deb Cox just confirmed on the telephone.\r\n<p>\r\nSpeaking of the Lowndes County Commission, as of today they have\r\nstill not updated\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/lowndescounty.com\/content\/misc\/elections%20calendar%202014%20(2).pdf\">\r\ntheir website<\/a> to add this Sunday voting.\r\nBut the Sunday schedule is in\r\ns the rest of the WALB story, based on a press release by the\r\nBoard of Elections:\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nThe Lowndes County Board of elections believes allowing voters to\r\nvote on Sunday will help increase voter turn out. &#8220;Our job here is\r\nto serve the citizens. So, we believe this extra day will help them\r\nmore,&#8221; said Davontae Battle, administrative clerk with the Lowndes\r\nCounty Board of Elections. &#8220;We&#8217;re hopeful of a larger turnout\r\nbecause of this added day.&#8221;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSunday voting will occur as part of the Early Voting Cycle and will\r\nbe available on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 12 noon to 5 p.m., in\r\nthe Elections Office at 2808 N Oak St., in Valdosta.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe rest of the Early Voting Schedule is as follows:\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMon Oct 13th &mdash; Fri 17th, 8 a.m. &mdash; 5 p.m.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMon Oct 20th&mdash;Fri 24th, 8 a.m. &mdash; 5 p.m.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSaturday, Oct 25th , 9 a.m. &mdash; 4 p.m.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSunday, Oct 26th, 12 noon &mdash; 5 p.m.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMon Oct 27th &mdash; Fri Oct 31st, 7a.m. &mdash; 7 p.m.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIf you have any questions call the Elections Office at 229-671-2850.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nWTXL also covered this yesterday in their evening news, although\r\nthat doesn&#8217;t seem to be online.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Despite some confusion in the WALB story, the Lowndes County Board of Elections really is the second in the state to authorize Sunday voting, after a request from the Lowndes County Democratic Committee.
