{"id":1004,"date":"2012-03-18T08:15:55","date_gmt":"2012-03-18T12:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/03\/industrial-authority-still-pushing-benefits-of-scrapped-private-prison.html"},"modified":"2012-03-18T08:15:55","modified_gmt":"2012-03-18T12:15:55","slug":"industrial-authority-still-pushing-benefits-of-scrapped-private-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/03\/industrial-authority-still-pushing-benefits-of-scrapped-private-prison.html","title":{"rendered":"Industrial Authority still pushing &#8220;benefits&#8221; of scrapped private prison"},"content":{"rendered":"The Industrial Authority appears to have learned nothing from the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www..l-a-k-e.org\/topics\/incarceration\/\">\nreams of information<\/a> about the CCA private prison\nfound for them by members of the public.\nThey&#8217;re still pushing the &#8220;benefits&#8221;\nwhile saying nothing about\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/topics\/incarceration\/letter\/\">\nthe numerous cons<\/a> (pun intended),\nthe biggest of which is that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/private-prison-is-like-biomass-ashley-paulk.html\">\nthe state and federal prison population is already decreasing,<\/a>\nmeaning we don&#8217;t need any more prisons, and if we built one here,\nit would be likely to close.\nSo it&#8217;s not just a bad idea, it&#8217;s bad business.\nBut here they go again&#8230;.\n<p>\nEames Yates wrote for WCTV Friday,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/news\/headlines\/Plans_For_New_Prison_Scrapped_143009705.html?ref=705\">\nPlans For New Prison Scrapped<\/a>,\n<blockquote>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.industrialauthority.com\/index.php\/staffboard.html\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/php\/include\/govt\/vlcia\/ASchruijer_02.jpg\"><\/a>\nSchruijer went on to say &#8220;It would have been a huge economic impact.\nThere were about 400 jobs associated with the project with\napproximately $150 million dollars in capital investment.&#8221;\n<p>\nThose four hundred jobs that the prison would have created, on\naverage, would have payed between $40,000 and $50,000 dollars eah.\n<\/blockquote>\nTo people who mostly don&#8217;t live here now and\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/why-private-prison-employees-might-not-want-to-work-too-close-to-home-barbara-stratton.html\">\nmostly wouldn&#8217;t want to live here then,<\/a>\nwhile driving away better businesses; she didn&#8217;t mention any of that,\nor the other problems with the whole private prison bad business.\n<p>\nThat picture of Ms. Schruijer is hosted on the LAKE website, by the way.\nThe VLCIA website is still broken, a week after I first pointed it out.\nIs this how the Industrial Authority plans to do PR, still\npromoting yet another failed Brad Lofton boondoggle while\nnot making anything positive available on their own website?\n<p>\n-jsq\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Industrial Authority appears to have learned nothing from the reams of information about the CCA private prison found for them by members of the public.
